Bollywood

The heyday of hand-painted film posters are over, but in the face of Norwegian film history, it is brought back to life. A 4.5m x 2.50m wide painting was commissioned from one of the last remaining poster painting studios in Mumbai, starting with a sketch that melts Norwegian film history with Bollywood. Yngve Aasen and Bernard Tømmerbakke traveled to Mumbai to document the project and to experience Bollywood closely.

The goal was to present the process as well as the actual crafts tradition in a worthy Mumbai setting. The final result was unveiled in an exhibition in Filmens Hus (Oslo). The exhibition was opened by the Indian ambassador, hosted by a Bollywood star and received press coverage in the following newspapers:
